8th Grand Annual Maha Abhishekam of Sastha Conducted

Sunday, 3rd Sept 2017 marked this year's 8th annual abhishekam of the Mahasastha Ayyanar at Suraikayur, our kula deivam.  Unlike the earlier years when the event was held on 4th Sept of each year, coinciding with the English (Gregorian) Calendar date when the kumbabhishekam was held on 4th Sept in 2008, in deference to requests from devotees to have the annual event on a Sunday, the abhishekam was held on 3rd this year.

It was indeed gratifying to see better participation this year, unlike in the last couple of years.  Hopefully more devotees will congregate next year.  This could also be an occasion to renew our bonds.

Though the kshetra nadhi, river Vettar was dry, the surroundings were lush green.

As done every year, the event began with elaborate sankalpam for the well being of the village and all the devotees of the Lord. This was followed by kalasa poojai and homam.  For the first time, along with kalasabhishekam, arrangement was made for 108 valamburi sankabhishekam too.  Devotees particularly appreciated this year's beautiful flower alankaram to the deities, Maha Sastha and Pushakalamba.

No event at the temple is complete without sumptuous prasadam.  This year's menu consisted of yummy sakkarai pongal with generous helping of ghee and raisins, finger licking sambar rice, potato curry and curd rice, and fried chillies to go with it.

Half-way through the serving of the prasadam, it was noticed that the panchamridham was missed to be brought out from the sanctum.  Sadly some of the devotees missed it.  Perhaps, the Lord will make it up for them when they join at the next years abhishekam!

May the Mahasastha Ayyanar bless all His devotees and answer their prayers.
