Devotees Meet

In a way it was going back to school - sitting in an old-worldly classroom with its high Madras ceiling, teakwood desks and benches, facing the black board, but there was no pressure of teachers, lessons, tests, punishment or performance! For the devotees of Suraikayur Sri Mahasastha met at 10 a.m. today, Sunday, 21st September 2014 at P.S. Higher Secondary, Mylapore, Chennai, to discuss the affairs of their kula deivam temple. There were late comers but no one was asked to stand up on the bench! Certainly the class room took us back in time and made us a bit nostalgic of our childhood days.

Details of discussions can be found in the Google Groups mail.

Circular

SRI MAHA SASTHA TEMPLE
SURAIKAYUR

Circular / September 7, 2014

Dear Devotees,

As informed in our last communication, the Maha Abhishekham of Lord Sastha at Suraikayur was performed on Thursday, 4th September 2014.

Devotees may recall that in the aforementioned communication, a meeting was proposed to be held at the temple after the function to informally discuss the recent developments, review matters and also make changes as may be required for the future.  For want of adequate quorum it could not be held as planned since the participation of devotees this time was rather thin.

So as to not loose further time, it is now decided to conduct a meeting at 10.00 a.m. on Sunday, 21st September 2014 at the following address to discuss the same agenda including appointment of new volunteers.

P.S. HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL
# 215, RAMAKRISHNA MUTT ROAD
MYLAPORE, CHENNAI - 600 004
(OPP TO RAMAKRISHNA MUTT)

Presence of all devotees is solicited.

6th Maha Abhishekam Performed

The 6th annual Maha Abhishekam of our kula deivam, Sri Maha Sastha Ayyanar, was performed on 4th instant with usual fervour.  The day marks the Kumbhabhishekam of the temple which took place 6 years back on September 4th, 2008.  The proceedings started with homam followed by abhishekam of the deities, alankaram, archana and distribution of prasadams.

In the past 6 years much improvements have been made in and around the temple precincts as is evident from a comparison of the old images and the present.  With lush green and well maintained garden around the temple, full of flowering plants, the entire place looks serene and beautiful.  There was water in the nearby Vettar river.

The committee desires increased participation of devotees in this annual event for it can become an occasion for families to come together and also to get to know each other.
